Why Winans and Autumn…Just Go Together!

By: Cheyenne Walters and Laurie Winans Reiser Even though the thought of Thanksgiving and Christmas are on our minds, fall is one of our favorite times of year here at Winans. It has cooled off enough that we can start shipping our product all over the country and world again. This cooler weather makes a freshly roasted and brewed cup of Winans coffee even tastier in the mornings. During the cool months of October and November you can expect to see us celebrating several events and holidays. Caramel apples are a much anticipated, traditional product at Winans for the month of October. Ever since Laurie’s dad, Max, sold caramel apples at the Piqua Central football games over 40 years ago, the town and county have had quite a fondness for this fall treat. Special apples in addition to caramel, are those with nuts, chocolate dipped and a new OHIO favorite, the “Buckeye Apple”. The Buckeye Apple is combines rich peanut butter fudge and chocolate!! Pumpkin fudge is another fall favorite that was carry through the month of November. These popular products add a lot more work for the factory workers, last week alone they dipped 1,100 apples!! Another October tradition for Winans is to support breast cancer awareness, we carry some ‘pink’ product in the store and a percentage of those profits go towards the Susan G. Komen foundation for research on breast cancer prevention and treatment. October is also the month for Halloween! We’ve got plenty of treats decorated for Halloween lovers; even gift wrap and bows to dress up gift boxes to fit the Halloween theme. Nutter-Butter...

6 Things to Remember About Easter at Winans

Welcome back and thank goodness spring is on it’s way. I think we are all ready for some color and warmth. At Winans, we have been preparing for this time for two months now! Yep, that’s right. We got started on preparing the chocolate factory for Easter products as soon as we got all the Valentine’s chocolate made. It was refreshing to bring in light colors and the traditional chocolate bunny molds back into the stores. Anyway, we wanted to share a few things with you about Winans during this time of year that you may or may not know. 1. This is Winans’ fifth generation of celebrating Easter with the families of the mid-west. Whether Winans chocolate is a Easter tradition in your family or you’re just getting started with your traditions you will find all that you need in our stores. 2. We currently have 7 variations of bunnies, available in milk chocolate/dark chocolate/white chocolate and some even in peanut butter. If you’re an Easter veteran to Winans and do not see an Easter mold we’ve had in the past that your family cherishes, feel free to ask to put in a special order because we may have the molds tucked away at the factory somewhere!   3. One of our variations of chocolate bunnies is Big Max. He is a whopping 20# and semi-solid! He was first introduced in 2013. Big Max is named after Max Winans, the founder of Winans Chocolates and Coffees. He stands up on his own and is perfect for family get-togethers or an office event. Ask about “Big Max Gives Back” in...

#WinansCelebratesLove 2015

So, Valentines Day is coming up quicker than we all expect. Trust us, we’re still confused about where Christmas went! But we know how you think…every year its the same old gig with Valentines Day. You’ll go out to dinner while the kids are at the sitter, then maybe if you’re not too tired you will go out to a movie or peruse the mall. Of course, there is nothing wrong with that! However, we know that the night before is when you decide to do that…yeah, we got you procrastinators! This year Winans Chocolates and Coffees wants to help you to celebrate love. Cherish every moment. We want to help you make your sweetie feel loved not only on Valentines Day but every day. We do that by celebrating the little moments. Celebration of the very thought of love. After all, Winans has been helping you do that very thing, celebrate love, for five generations. We can help you show your loved one how much you appreciate them in the sweetest way possible! So the only thing we ask in return for our endeavors of helping you celebrate your loved one is to share with us how you do it! Use the hashtag, #winanscelebrateslove, and share on Facebook and Instagram. You can share photos, a simple status, or a story about how we succeeded in making you feel the love.   In return of generously sharing your stories and photos, we plan on giving away some gift cards for the cutest, most heart-felt and funniest memories, photos and stories that are shared with us! (You can “enter” multiple photos). Now what kind of pictures...

5 Reasons Why You Should Get Your Hands on Our New Mesocacao Chocolate Line!

#1 Bean to Bar Traditionally chocolate manufacturers are unable to trace back the origin of the cacao to produce chocolate to send to companies to use for various reasons. These manufacturers are usually multinational corporations with little regard to the process of how cacao beans get to their buildings. Currently Winans buys from such a provider. However, with Mesocacao we are able to trace back the chocolate to the exact farm where it came from. The phrase “Bean to Bar” is a phrase that means the process of getting cacao beans to chocolate manufacturing locations to make dark and milk chocolate to send it out and have it used in the production of chocolate bars. With this chocolate we are not only making chocolate bars but have already experimented on our own specialty pieces such as peanut butter delights and sea salt caramels, they are available in the stores now! #2 We Know the Farmers! Joe Rieser, one of the co-owners of Winans has been part of the Mesocacao process. He has been to Central America, in Honduras and Nicaragua, to visit the farms and actually get in on the process of cutting, fermentation, drying and transforming cacao into chocolate. He got to know the farmers of the area and got a sense of their culture, to bring back into the chocolate and coffee business. Mesocacao is proud to call Joe Rieser one of their partners in helping Central America rebuild cacao production and boost the economy. The Mesocacao team creates direct trade relationships with small farmers ensuring they are properly compensated for planting and harvesting the highest quality...
